A Certified Professional Ergonomist, Jake Pauls has over 55 years of international experience in research, codes and standards development, plus consulting connecting ergonomics, public health and standards for built environment usability and safety. (His consulting work has the registered trademark, “filing-bldguse-and-safety-gaps”.) For 8 of his 13 US safety standards committee memberships—now totaling over 300 committee-years of voting membership, he formally represents the American Public Health Association. In 2017, the University of Greenwich, UK, conferred an Honorary Doctor of Science Degree for Jake’s contributions to science and technology of building safety, including evacuation of high-rise and other large buildings. Dr. Pauls operates an international consultancy from Toronto, Canada, and Silver Spring, Maryland, linking architecture, ergonomics, public health and law. He has visited Australia many times, one being to assist in high-rise building evacuation studies in the 1980s and many since then entailing participation in world safety conferences.
