This annual lecture honours the legacy of long time member and former executive committee member, Russ Milner by spotlighting individuals, organizations, and projects that enhance the capacity of the injury prevention sector and effectively translate evidence into policy and practice.
Sophie Dwyer, a renowned expert with a rich career in public, environmental, and occupational health, will share her journey and insights into applying public health principles to injury prevention. With extensive experience at Queensland Health, Sophie has tackled a broad spectrum of public health challenges, from environmental risks to regulatory programs. Her outstanding contributions have been recognized with a Public Service Medal for her work in environmental and public health, and an Honorary Fellowship of Environmental Health Australia.
Though recently retired, Sophie maintains an active connection with public and environmental health through her role as co-convenor of the PHAA Ecology and Environment SIG and Board member on the Climate and Health alliance. She holds adjunct professor role at University of Queensland.
