Who you are, where you work / used to work / field/expertise?
I’m Suzanne Butler, currently the General Manager – Injury Prevention at Injury Matters, where I lead the Stay On Your Feet® and Know Injury programs. I’ve worked in injury prevention for more than 20 years, with expertise in falls prevention, workforce development, and stakeholder engagement across government, health services, and community sectors.
How did you get into Injury Prevention?
I came into the field through my background in health promotion. Early in my career, I was drawn to falls prevention because of the profound impact it has on helping older adults maintain their independence and quality of life. Over time, this passion grew into a career dedicated to injury prevention more broadly.
What is your favourite part of being involved with the AIPN? Being part of the AIPN gives me the opportunity to connect with colleagues across Australia and New Zealand, share learnings, and contribute to strengthening the profile of injury prevention nationally. I value the network’s ability to bring people together around innovative practice and evidence-based solutions.
A fact about yourself that most people wouldn't know.
I grew up on a farm in a small regional town in WA called Tammin, and that experience gave me a real appreciation for the importance of access to health services in rural and remote areas.
